When stuff breaks . . .

St. Germain StairsLast weekend our elevator broke.  And we live on the 8th floor of a 1915 historic building.  Not to mention that, we were in the middle of a house party with guests.  Yes, they had to walk down 181 steps to get out of the building.  We didn't advertise the party as a cardio workout, but that's what happened.  The elevator was finally repaired Sunday evening, about 24 hours later. By that time I had made the trip up and down several times.

The good news . . . I discovered a new form of cardio that I am attempting to do everyday.  I always talk to other people about taking the stairs, but I'm usually thinking about one, two, maybe three flights at the most.  But eight flights is awsome!  (OK, I'm not doing it with groceries or the dog.)  Taking the stairs once or twice a day has really upped the ante on my daily step count.

Here's the point.  Sometimes things happen that seem awkward or even downright miserable in the moment.  But if you step back and consider what there is to learn, you just might come out ahead.  It's not always easy to frame life events in a positive way.  But it is a habit that can change your life for the better.  Practice making lemonade out of those lemons!

Here's to navigating life's challenges with grace!

Wanted to add an update - part of taking the stairs means carving out time. I can't wait until the last minute before I need to be somewhere if I want to take the stairs. It's going pretty well, but time is the biggest barrier.

Depending on how many stairs you have to get, having an extra deodorant in your bag may be smart too...
